To Choose, to Begin Card Number: 1 The number 1 embodies the whole in potential. The Magician has a cornucopia of knowledge, tools and devices available for his use. He acts in the spiritual realm. For each situation he encounters he must choose the right device. We see an androgynous individual shaping smoke, light and shadow, incarnating illusion and spiritual elements (subconscious) into conscious thought. His right hand is open and receptive and in his left hand he holds an active staff. In a Reading This card embodies a beginner, a young person, or child full of potential, uncertain of what he or she should choose. He has a hard time making a choice, almost preferring non-existence to being incarnate. He exemplifies a beginning, choosing, deciding. He must commit and step into reality. He also reveals a trickster. He may indicate the appearance of a player (at love), a con artist or a good lover who uses his prowess to manipulate his lover. He may represent an older man or woman who exhibits youthful characteristics or a talented person of any age. The Magician asks us to consider questions concerning our career, job and profession. |
