In a Reading

In the numerology of the Tarot, the Devil is in the 5th degree of the second decimal series, corresponding to the Pope (V). Just as the Pope is a bridge to the spiritual world, He is a bridge to the subconscious, our animal. Lucifer, the Light Bearer, shines his light in the darkness, uncovering what is hidden; desires, lust, greed, jealousy…etc. He appears naked, covered in fur; having nothing to hide, he is free of hypocrisy and mocks a hypocrite. On the negative side of this interpretation he is the Great Accuser and reveals a jealous gossiper who tries to destroy  profound love with accusations and rumors.

He is, however, a good omen for questions concerning creativity. He embodies talent and inspires creative process.

The Devil can be a harbinger of money and all things financial or an indicator of the desire for wealth. In this respect  he leads indiscriminately to fortune or ruin.

He also refers to sexuality and indicates the need to cast off the moral, sexual and creative inhibitions that have been imposed on us so we can reconnect with our root powers.

When He appears in the future of a spread, it may be a warning of approaching entrapment, bondage or an indicator of addiction suggesting a need for prudence and sobriety.
